On Thursday, May 17th our PC Caucus & Theo Fleury introduce Bill 116 to provide paid and unpaid leave for victims of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and sexual violence.
We know that untreated trauma will continue to plague our province unless we make changes. Gone untreated, survivors will resort to drugs, alcohol and inevitably experience mental health issues. When a survivor requests help, that help needs to be available to them without barriers - and survivors have told us that not being able to access leave from their employment has been a barrier.
Our PEI PC Caucus showed leadership, compassion and humility and put forward a Bill to take a step forward for trauma survivors and ensure they have the supports they need to help them in their healing process. Bill 116 received unanimous approval from the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, May 17th.
This is a step in the right direction. It's the starting line, not the finish line. Our Caucus will continue to work hard for all Islanders and ensure they have the necessary supports that they deserve.
