Steven lives in Cardigan and has two children.

Steven has extensive community experience as President of both Cardigan Minor Ball, and Montague Minor Hockey. He was Chair of both the Cardigan Ball Field Renovations Committee and the 2011 Midget Female Atlantics Host Committee as well as serving as a board member of the Cardigan Communities Development Association and the PEI Minor Hockey Council.

Steven was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island on October 3, 2011 and May 4, 2015. He was chosen as the interim leader of the PEI Progressive Conservative Party in January of 2013 and served as Leader of the Opposition from 2013-2015. Currently Steven is a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts as well as the Standing Committee on Rules, Regulations, Private Bills and Privileges.
