Statement from PC Party President Sydney Gallant

Earlier today, I spoke with Premier King, and he shared the news that he intends to resign as Premier and Leader of the PEI PC Party effective tomorrow. Last week, we celebrated Dennis King’s sixth anniversary as our Leader, and it’s remarkable to think about the challenges he’s faced – and led us through – in such a short period of time.

Premier King’s leadership and commitment to our province has been evident no matter what was thrown at him during his time as our Leader and Premier. Whether it’s a pandemic, major weather events, or trade disputes, he has served our province in a way that will forever be marked in history, and I believe I can speak on behalf of not only our party but all Islanders when I say we are forever grateful for his leadership.

After learning of this news, our PC Caucus met and endorsed Hon. Rob Lantz as the Interim Leader, and our PC Executive met this afternoon and endorsed their recommendation to have Hon. Rob Lantz be our Interim Party Leader and the 34th Premier of the Province.
