Sonya Hooper to seek PC nomination in Charlottetown-Winsloe

Sonya Hooper announced today that she is seeking the Progressive Conservative nomination for the upcoming by-election in District 10, Charlottetown-Winsloe.

Hooper is the longtime Executive Director of the Early Childhood Development Association of PEI (ECDA) and has spent her career advocating for children and families in Prince Edward Island.

“During my time with ECDA I learned the importance of working in collaboration with the community to make big changes,” says Hooper. “I want to take that understanding and apply it to working with my neighbors, friends and family in District 10 to make this a community we are proud to call home.”

Before leading the ECDA of PEI, Hooper owned and operated her own childcare centre in Sherwood for ten years. While running her business, Hooper raised three daughters and earned a Master in Education from the University of Prince Edward Island.

Hooper has volunteered with national childcare boards including the Child Care Human Resources Sector Council and the Canadian Child Care Federation. Locally, Hooper also sits on the PEI Literacy Alliance board and is involved with 100 Women Who Care. She has volunteered with Sherwood and PEI Minor Soccer Associations, Charlottetown Ringette Association and has managed the PEI Canada Games Ringette Team. Sonya currently lives in Sherwood with her partner Ben Legault.

“Charlottetown-Winsloe is where we live, where we work and where we’ve raised our families. I have great respect for how our Premier Dennis King and his team established our province as a leader in the global pandemic . I want to join his government to further ensure PEI is a leader in all sectors.”
