"On behalf of the PC Party of Prince Edward Island, I want to extend my sympathies on the passing of our friend and colleague, Mark McLane. Mark was more than a member of our caucus or our party, he was someone you could always rely on, he was someone who always showed up, and someone who could always make you smile.
A large part of who Mark was came from his deep commitment to volunteering. It was one of the many reasons he fit so naturally into the PC Party family. Mark gave countless hours to groups like Big Brothers Big Sisters, ringette associations, field hockey teams, and so many other community organizations. He didn’t volunteer for recognition. He did it because he believed in lifting others up. That same spirit defined his approach to public service and earned him the lasting gratitude and respect of so many Islanders.
One of my favourite photos of Mark was taken on his very first day campaigning in the 2021 by-election in District 16. It marked the start of a new journey he embraced with excitement, determination, and a genuine desire to make a difference. That day showed everything Mark believed in: showing up, doing the work, and measuring progress by how much better things could be for the people he served.
That first day was especially meaningful to Mark for a personal reason. The very first door he knocked on was the home where his late mother once lived. A deliberate choice that reflected his deep commitment to family. Starting his political journey there grounded him in where he came from and allowed him to carry his mother with him as he set out to serve his community. That same commitment to family was always clear when you saw Mark with his wife, Margie, and daughters Maria, Bethany, and Katherine.
On behalf of the PC Party of PEI, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family, his friends, and everyone who feels his loss. We are grateful for the time we shared with such an extraordinary person."
