CLYDE RIVER, PE - Premier Dennis King today released details from the PC Party healthcare platform designed to help aging Islanders live in the comfort of their own homes longer.
Over the past four years, the PC government under the leadership of Dennis King has supported Islanders wishing to live at home longer by increasing home care services, providing more funding to the Seniors Independence and the Seniors Safe at Home programs, and doubling the funding threshold for the Seniors Home Repair Program and the Seniors Emergency Home Repair Program, and launching a new Seniors Food Program pilot.
A re-elected PC government will further support Islanders looking to live at home longer by:
-
Creating a Primary Caregiver Grant of up to $1,500 a month to support families who choose to keep their loved ones at home longer instead of entering community care.
-
Establishing a Care-in-Place program by working with home care, community care, and long-term care facilities to provide seniors living at home with enhanced social and health supports including telehealth services available from home, connecting residents with existing community services and programs, friendly check-in calls and in-person social visits, offering intergenerational programming with students, transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping and social outings, and opening recreational programs available at long-term care facilities to seniors living in their own homes.
-
Adding 50 new positions over the next two years to public home care to provide more timely access to home care services for living at home and provide better support to patients who are discharged from hospitals.
-
Increase the Seniors Safe at Home program to $15,000 and increase the Seniors Home Repair program to $8,000.
-
Provide rebates up to $500 per year for Home-Based Medical Alert Systems to give greater peace of mind to families where seniors stay at home longer.
“By providing these new programs and services, and expanding existing programs like the Seniors Safe at Home and Seniors Home Repair program, we will be able to support aging Islanders who want to stay at home longer,” said Premier Dennis King. “A re-elected PC government will make the necessary investments to ensure that seniors, families, and caregivers feel supported and cared for.”
